Gothic culture is a contemporary culture present in many countries. It began in the UK during the late 1970s and early 1980s, also derived from the post-punk genre. Gothic literature covers a lifestyle and is associated mainly with musical tastes from the 1980s to the present (darkwave/gothic rock, EBM, industrial, etc.), aesthetics with alternative make-up and hairstyles (colored hair, shredded hair) and a particular philosophical and literary baggage. The music turns to themes that glamorize decadence, nihilism, hedonism, and the dark side. The dark aesthetic translates into various styles of clothing, from deathrock, punk, Renaissance, and Victorian, or combinations of the previous ones, primarily based on Black color, often with colorful additions and full of accessories based on futuristic films in the case of cyber goths.
The use of the term Gothic in history
Since the 1990s has begun to suffer from some distortions by frequent deceptions, such as that of which the term Gothic has always been linked through history and therefore today’s goths would be legitimate descendants of the Visigoths, goths, Ostrogoth’s, among others. That they would have started the architectural style of sacred constructions and also literature, when in fact, Gothic cathedrals only began to be built in the 11th century and did not even receive that name at the time they were established as sacred art, because they expressed the ideology and aesthetics of Catholic entry at the time.
Religion and symbolism
The Gothic / darkwave is a secular sub-culture, meaning it is not integrated into any religion. Some think that goths are directly linked to esoteric, anti-Christianism. Although every individual who combines himself is free to choose his beliefs in any kind of God. Wannabes – a girl among people of Gothic subculture, refers to a confident new, curious subject-usually follow the misguided and misguided prescription of others belonging to it. Some religious preamble feature is used as a theme, for music or aesthetics. A crucifix, for example, can, theatrically, symbolize torture, for the cross was made in Rome, as an instrument of torture, even before the birth of Christ.
What is gothic culture?
The Gothic subculture (called Dark in the early 1980s only in Brazil) is a contemporary subculture present in many countries. It began in the UK during the late 1970s and early 1980s, also derived from the post-punk genre. The Gothic subculture covers a lifestyle, being associated with it mainly musical tastes from the 1980s to the present (darkwave / gothic rock, deathrock, trip-hop, EBM, synthpop, indie, industrial, etc.), aesthetics (visual, “fashion”, clothing, etc.) with alternative make-up and hairstyles (coloured, shredded, messy hair) and a particular philosophical “baggage”. The music turns to themes that glamorize decadence, nihilism, hedonism, and the dark side. The dark aesthetic translates into various styles of clothing, from deathrock, punk, androgynous, Renaissance, and Victorian, or combinations of the earlier, essentially black-based, often with colorful additions and full of accessories based on futuristic films in the case of cyber goths.
Gothic, in the first place, means: relative to the Goths, a confederation of Germanic tribes that invaded the Roman Empire during the 20th century. They were the early Germanic peoples to convert to Christianity. The first adjective distortion dates back to the Renaissance. The Italians thought that classical art, which they admired and sought to revive, had been corrupted in the Middle Ages by Christians. Thus, they made the Goths their scapegoat and pejoratively taxed all medieval (Christian) art from Gothic, thus extending the meaning of the word. During the centuries in which it was modern, Gothic art was known under the name “opus francigenarum,” meaning “French work” and indicates its central origin. In the 15th and 16th centuries; however, with the Renaissance and enthusiasm for classical antiquity, the Middle Ages were regarded as a primitive and obscure time. As the Goths were the best-known barbarians, the style became called Gothic, that is, barbarian par excellence, reaching a pejorative sense and deep contempt. Gothic art was well known for its bold architecture, which allowed its builders to build castles and fortresses stronger and stronger than those of other civilizations of the time. These castles, mansions, and fortifications were the scenes of stories and legends; many linked to the mystic and supernatural. Late 20th century. XVIII, they were visited by a new strain of inhabitants. They were poets, writers, occultists, and dreamers. In the shadows, they produced immortal works such as Frankenstein, The Crow, The Flowers of Evil, Dracula, and others. This is the world of goths, dark and weary romantic — an eternal quest, guided by the night and its mysteries.
Difference between goths and Emos
Wear clothes and accessories in black, they live in strange places, you only walk in groups, dress up in unusual ways, and at times, funny, they listen to music is different, and you have to find a way to act all-around other than that of the rest of the company. But, be careful, they are deadly enemies, and you don’t want to be confused. Even though there are a lot of similarities, I’m talking about the Will, and the Gothic, two styles that must be respected by the rest of society, even if we do not like these styles, they should appreciate the taste of those people who are deemed to be different.
The Goths and Emos are two urban tribes, but the Goths have been around for much longer than we have. There are indications that they arose in France in the 18th century and still value death, silence, melancholy and worship rock and even are practitioners of Satanism, and it is also worth remembering that many Gothic people like to frequent cemeteries at night. Have You, are much younger, have surfaced a short while ago, and it is the teenagers who use the franjão, and live in love, crying, thrilling, comfortable and always listening to Nx, so this is an emo band that was already well-known for their style and their music, which can make anybody feel the emotions.
These two urban tribes will continue to be seen in the largest Brazilian cities with their styles that attract a lot of attention because they only wear black clothes and still wear those very striking accessories, which is why they will always be noticed by society. That will continue to criticize two different styles that could very well dress usually, but even adopting a different method should be respected by the community.
These two different styles should not be confused by the Brazilian society that may already have encountered some emo or gothic, because as already said, they are mortal enemies that cannot be confused in some way. Because emos do not like the Goths, who have lived longer with their style that may even be similar to those who do not know much about these two urban tribes.
